Castaway?

In this pic, M reminds me of Tom Hank's character in Castaway, when he creates fire....I can almost hear Moises say "look at what I have created!"

More Trusses...

The roof...

This is the first truss in place.  It's taking too long to load a video, but there are a couple of Moises, Yusuf and Angel putting up one of the trusses.  Putting up the trusses was probably the most stressful part of the week.  Everyone was tired and we were running out of time to finish everything for the week at this point.  It's easy to go back now and slap up some pics on the blog, saying we did this, and then this, and it makes it sound as if everything worked out smoothly, but there were times when it seemed like one thing after another.

Building Walls...

I make a horrible historian a month later....this might have been day four or day five...we built the walls for the back of the house.  This would be the first time that I used a nail gun.  I never realized how heavy those suckers can be!

closet

we are standing in what was our bedroom closet a few days before...

kitchen

this used to be our kitchen.

more walls...come down...

and now the exterior walls come down...with a nice big pile in the backyard (we ran out of room in the dumpster).

day...three?

the beginning of the third day started out with rain.  the thinking was that the walls in the back wouldn't be able to hold the weight of the trusses, so we tore down some walls.  i'm so done with demo.  this is the back part of the house, Angel with smile and a sledgehammer, and another part as more was taken down in the back, notice the exterior siding that used to be underneath our walls in our living room.

tarp from hell...

tarp from hell, and i'm not talking about paulson's troubled asset relief program.....  in the past, i've seen houses with tarps on the roof and thought to myself "who are those %*&#* that they can't plan and get a roof on before it rains."  we are now those %^&*#$s.  we put the tarp on the back part of the house (the addition/where we used to live).  not only did we get rain, but wind.  if you've never had a tarp on the back part of your house while it's windy, you are missing an experience....  someone described it as apocalyptic.  or maybe they were referring to the pile of our house that was now in the backyard.  and the pile was only going to get bigger......

penguin!

it was a rough weekend, even the dog was tired....

The back door to our house...

so most of the evening and well into the night consisted of Yusuf and Pete putting the felt on the osb to dry in the roof.  which, took a long time hand nailing the felt down.  a long time.  i think they may still have nightmares of that night.  and the reason they were up on the roof so long that night.....is because it was supposed to rain that night.  and all day the next day.  which....it did.  here's a view of, what used to be our back door.  it's pretty dark, but there is a tarp over part of it, and yup, no roof on that part of the house.

day two, cont.

much to Nick and Pete's delight - roof demo...into what used to be our living space.  i would have been happy to see the ugly, gross addition go....if it didn't contain our kitchen...

Day Two!

day two consisted of tearing off the back flat rubber roof.

penguin in window...

our watchful doggie...from the inside...and how many tearing off shingle pictures can we have?

i missed some from the first day...

i guess i can't trust the date on the iPhoto events (or the camera?) because it looks like some of the 1st day pics are mixed in with day 2.  here is: Dale and Angel ripping shingles off on the front, the front view of the house with the eaves coming together, and Nick ripping off....yet more shingles...

training wheels...

the next day....M tried to conquer his fear of heights...
